The Watchman

The Objective

Use rhythmic tension and meter to represent vigilance, then release into stable 4/4 discernment.

Composer's Blueprint

Signature motif

G-D-F-Eb-D grouped 3+2+2.

Harmonic engine

Gm pedal-Eb-F; chorus resolves to Gm-Bb-Eb-F.

Prosody — lyric emphasis

Precise syllables in 7/8; place WATCH, HEART, TRUTH, FEAR on structural accents.

Emotional-frequency automation

Meter is the tension device; chorus 4/4 reduces density and opens the vocal range.

Transition — ending cue

Return briefly to 7/8 for two bars, then end in settled 4/4.

Instruments

• Lead vocal: Precise and controlled over 7/8. The chorus becomes steadier and more open when the meter resolves to 4/4.
• Rhythm guitar: Alternating 7/8 figures grouped 3+2+2. Make the pattern memorable, not merely complicated. Open into broad 4/4 chords for the chorus.
• Bass: Double the odd-meter guitar figure for weight. In the chorus, move into a strong root-and-fifth foundation.
• Drums: Accent the 7/8 as 3+2+2. On the chorus, switch immediately to a straight rock backbeat. Use cymbal restraint so the meter change is unmistakable.
• Lead guitar / flute: Optional flute/whistle color in the instrumental section. Guitar can imitate a breathy, flute-like line without copying any existing melody.
• Keys / pad: High sustained tones during the 7/8 section; wider pad on the 4/4 chorus.
• Backing vocals: Low harmony on 'watch and pray'; higher harmony on 'Spirit true' and final 'upon You'.
• Dynamics: The meter itself creates tension; do not add excessive distortion. The release comes from the clean 4/4 chorus.

The notes and instruments stand exactly as created — skilled musicians can already play this music as written.
